How to keep your ‘get fit’ New Year’s Resolution on track

Have the Mince Pies, Brandy Butter, Stilton and Booze all taken their toll this Christmas?  Are you planning on making 2019 the year that you get more active, fitter and healthier?  If so, here are a few tips to help add ‘keeping fit’ to the list of things you love to do:

  • If it’s been some time since you last undertook any concerted exercise, speak to one of the team here at the clinic to help get the proper advice to ensure that there are no medical reasons why you should not exercise.
  • Always remember to warm up and warm down before and after any activity. Start with less strenuous activity like walking or jogging and finish with some light stretches at the end of an exercise session. Speak to one of the team here at the clinic for one of our stretching exercise sheets. Stretching will help minimise muscle stiffness and reduce the chance of muscle strain.
  • Keep well hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids (water is best) before, during and after exercise.
  • Ensure you wear the right attire for your chosen activity and the appropriate footwear for the type of exercise you are doing – most specialist sportswear retailers will be able to advise you on this. Most importantly, enjoy it! Don't join a gym if you hate the gym. So long as it’s active, do something you enjoy, whether it be walking, cycling, badminton or swimming.
